FreeTrademarkAPI docs · Launching Q1 2027

Statements of use, renewals, office actions, and more via API

Post-application and post-registration actions, fileable via API and paid with X402. Initial orders can be placed by a bot; a human contact email is required for declaration signing; attorney review applies where filing to the USPTO is involved.

USPTO regulations ban AI bots from accessing the USPTO online filing system. FreeTrademarkAPI does not send bots into USPTO filing tools. A US trademark attorney handles USPTO filing after review.

Applicants located outside the United States are required to hire a US-licensed attorney to file US trademarks.

A human contact email is required so a person can sign official declarations.

This API is not the official USPTO TSDR API. For official status and document retrieval, use USPTO systems such as TSDR and the Open Data Portal.

Supported filing types

FilingPurpose
Statement of useProve use in commerce when required
Registration renewalKeep a registration alive
Office action responseReply to USPTO refusals/requirements
Express abandonmentVoluntarily abandon an application
Trademark assignmentRecord ownership transfer

Shared requirements

  • The API collects required information per filing type.
  • Human contact email for declaration signing.
  • X402 payment (X402 payments).
  • A bot may place the initial order; USPTO-facing filing still respects the bot ban and attorney rules.

Per-type notes (stubs for launch)

Required fields, example request shapes, and errors for each filing type will be documented when the API ships. Until then:

  • Statement of use — prove use in commerce when required; attorney review before USPTO filing.
  • Registration renewal — keep a registration alive; attorney review before USPTO filing.
  • Office action response — reply to USPTO refusals or requirements; for complex office actions email hello@markavo.com.
  • Express abandonment — voluntarily abandon an application.
  • Trademark assignment — record an ownership transfer.

Typical timeline note for all types: attorney review applies where filing to the USPTO is involved.
