USPTO API vs FreeTrademarkAPI
The USPTO publishes official data APIs. FreeTrademarkAPI is a separate product: a free US knockout for bots and agents, plus optional attorney-reviewed filing.
USPTO Open Data Portal
The USPTO Open Data Portal is the USPTO’s data platform. It is powerful and free with registration. Expect MFA / ID.me style account friction, patent-skewed documentation, and a catalog of data products — not a turnkey knockout product.

FreeTrademarkAPI
- Free US knockout for bots and agents
- API key required (issued for this product at launch — process TBD)
- Trademark + class → available / not available style result
- Optional filing and support orders with X402, human contact email, and US trademark attorney review
- No USPTO filing by bots
When to use which
Use USPTO ODP / official USPTO tools when you need official bulk or case data, TSDR documents and status from the source, or you are building against USPTO-published APIs.
Use FreeTrademarkAPI when you want a bot-friendly US knockout (mark + class) and, if you choose, attorney-reviewed filing or support orders without sending bots into USPTO filing systems.
FreeTrademarkAPI does not replace the USPTO, and it is not the official TSDR API.
